AgilityMaybe you've seen it on TV - dogs running through an obstacle course of jumps, tunnels, ramps, "weave poles", teeter totters, and other exciting challenges. This is Canine Agility!
Our agility classes are designed for maximum fun! They allow you to have a terrific time with your dog, build your pet's confidence by training new skills, and help socialize your dog with other dogs and people. Agility is also an excellent supplement to formal obedience training, since your dog learns to pay attention to you in a high degree of distraction. If you want the chance to compete with your dog, Canine Agility is great! As a competitive sport, it tests the teamwork of owner and dog over a timed obstacle course. Competitors race against the clock as they direct their dogs through an obstacle course configuration designed for the team's level of experience. Once a minimum time is met, scoring is based on quality of the performance. Deductions are taken from a perfect score for errors made by the handler/dog team. The pair with the highest score wins. In the event of a tie, the handler/dog team with the fastest time wins. Agility is an exciting spectator sport, and great fun for dog and owner alike. Paws Abilities Dog Training periodically holds Agility "Fun Matches" to give those interested in competing experience and, okay, just because they're fun even if you don't want to formally compete. All dogs who have can safely perform each of the individual obstacles are welcome to participate. Levels are assigned to group dogs according to training experience. Dogs who train with other agility organizations are eligible to participate and welcome. All Paws Abilities Agility classes use "Click & Treat" training. Students unfamiliar with "Click & Treat" training must attend a one hour clicker seminar prior to attending their first class. The $25 clicker seminar fee includes instruction, handouts and a clicker.
